The Uruguayan Maestro: Suarez Named Man of the Match
Sportsindo – The Uruguay national team finished 3rd in the Copa America 2024. In the match against Canada, Uruguay’s 37-year-old striker Luis Suarez was voted Man of the Match.
The Uruguay national team won over the Canadian national team in the Copa America 2024 third place match on Sunday (14/7/2024). Draw 2-2, Uruguay then won on penalties 4-3.
Uruguay took the lead through Rodrigo Bentancur in the 8th minute, then Canada replied through Ismael Kone in the 22nd minute. Canada took the lead through substitute Jonathan David in the 80th minute. After that, Luis Suarez, who also came off the bench, equalised the score for Uruguay in the 90+2 minute.
The match went to penalties. Uruguay won 4-3.
Luis Suarez, who was introduced to replace Darwin Nunez at the start of the second half, became a saviour and hero for Uruguay. Apart from scoring in injury time, he was also one of Uruguay’s successful executioners in the penalty shootout.
